so, as we can see this little one have only 7 jewels. And the stamp on the main bridge is RUBAIYAT W.CO.

Not only rubaiyat as we seen on all rubaiyat from 17-18-19.

our trench watch got the same features.....

thats why i suggest the 1916 year for this little bully.

it will align with what we know for the moment.

and as we can see in old ad, we never saw a rubaiyat with only 7 jewels. i know our ads for rubaiyat dont go under 1917.... a reasin more to date this one on 1916. I am very curious to ear comments from panel memeber on this one.

nearly forget the case serial number who tend to prove the 31xxxxx, 32xxxxx, 33xxxxx, 34xxxxx. ((never saw a 35xxxxx probably cause they use 25xxxxx)) are older than 25xxxxx, 26xxxxx, 27xxxxx. and after we see 10xxxxx, 11xxxxx, 12xxxxx.

seem logic! but once again, lack of proof. time will tell us!

Another nice early ladies watch.

Rubaiyat (will leave the date to the early experts)

Great watch but I will defer to the early watch experts on the ID.

My feeling is that it's not as early as 1916. The few ASWCCo cases we have that start with a '3' are tricky to date with any certainty. Did they come before or after the '2' serials?

My gut is saying after and date  to around 1918-1919.

Here are a few other similar Rubaiyat watches we have in the database, noting the dial design with the inner circular bevel.

Rubaiyat was first used in 1916 and it's hard to know the progression of stampings over the next 3-4 the years.

If it is anythinhg like Bulova movement stamping, BULOVA came before BULOVA W Co., so it might be fair to say RUBAIYAT W Co. came after RUBAIYAT.

I'm at 1918-19 at the earliest. We have your other '3" serial case which we have dated to 1918. For consistancy I'd be ok with that, but it is still a bit of a guessing game to determine the exact year. Again I don't think it's 1916 and certainly not the oldest watch we have seen.

Here's hoping one day we can unravel the "2xxxxxx", "3xxxxxx" and "1xxxxxx" serials.

oh!!! the last picture is a 7 jewels of 1920! i missed this one! so i dont get the first 7 jewels rubaiyat of d.b. but the oldest rubaiyat with 7 jewels.....

if never you got it right about bulova/bulova w.co. in comparaison of  rubaiyat and rubaiyat w.co. it will mean that the trench watch me and fifth got could suposed to be 1920 upward..... cause we see rubaiyat stamp only in 17-18-19. after this in 1920 and upwards we see the rubaiyat w.co. stamp in case with globe.

with a 7 jewels with the rubaiyat w.co. stamp , i was thinking the subject watch is better align with the trench watch cause in 17-18-19 we never saw the rubaiyat w.co. stamp. so the subject watch and the two trench watch are supposed to be all in 1920 upward? dont think so. they dont wear the globe..... and thats why i supposed the subject watch is 1916.

you can show me all this picture but none of these wear the american standard case housing a 7 jewels with the rubaiyat w.co. stamp.....

did you just ever see a rubaiyat 7 jewels with rubaiyat w.co. stamp?

thats the point i use to aligne the subject watch with our two trench watch.

dial and hands configuration can exist till 1911-1912. we just dont know so dating by this and regardless about the movement jewels count and the stamp is a bit too easy..... you put this in front as the dial and hand never exist before 1917 but the truth is we just dont know

And yes dating this little bully is a real nightmare for the moment. Hope one day we will able to clean this mess with new info.😂

the dating at this time is not important to me.....

but the fact remain about the jewels count and the famous stamp.....

other way my trench watch with Leo harper engraved name are just a post war remeberance object ? worn to the death by a man who serve at 1st 14-18......maybe !

missing to much info beside small hints......

the rabbit hole is deeper than ever once again.

Stephens' comment from this thread in 2014 may shoot many of these ID's in the foot: Bulova 1919 Rubaiyat | myBulova.com

'Is it a fair assumption that because American Standard Watch Case Company wasn't founded until 1920 that any watch with this stamp cannot predate this year.

I totally agree that this is a very early bird, yet can't help but wonder about the following dates.

  • A.W.C.Co (American Watch Case Company NYC: issued 8 August 1905
  • Rubaiyat (straight): used since 1 November 1916
  • Rubaiyat (wave): issued 15 May 1917
  • American Standard: first used 1 August 1918
  • Monogram (straight): used since 18 November 1919
  • American Standard Watch Case Company: founded 1920
  • Monogram (arched) issued: 12 April 1921 (used since 18 Nov 1919)

This shows that Rubaiyat was around prior (1917 onwards) but perhaps because it is cased in a ASWCCo case it actually dates 1920.

NOTE there is a difference between American Standard (1918), American Standard Watch Company (1886 and maybe earlier) and American Standard Watch Case Company (1920). The records show that the company was founded in 1920 not taken over by Bulova in 1920. Do we have any records to the contrary showing ASWCCo used at an early year?

Thoughts?'

If American Standard Watch Case Co was founded in 1920 how are these watches dating to the teens, or was the info found to be different?

asking for a friend.

yes, im aware of all these date as i am about the fact we know bulova frequently claim some use and use it many years before..... for exemple the AMERICAN MAID 1915 in d.b. have an american standard watch co. case ( first use supposed to be 1918).

For the subject watch we got the straight stamp rubaiyat and a 7 jewels count just as our trench watch. is the only solid clue i have to date it in 1916.

and me too i am questioning my self a lot about the 1910' we have.

the day will come and the light will put order in this. (i hope a lot ).
