Watch Repair

would you know if a hairspring would cause a watch to run super fast like 45 min fast? Had a guy look at this and told me it was a bad hairspring then said 100 bucks to fix it. Needless to say i still need this advance in time fixed. was the price fair or was he looking for fast money 

hello i have a loose pallet jewel,that i would like to practice learning how to repair...i have used shellac before with pallet stones and roller jewels..the problem is the shellac is a pain in the @$$ to use..have seen the topic of using uv glue instead of shellac but there wasn't very much info and or problems of using uv instead...

i would like to take this chance to thank nova for giving me the info. that enabled me to get in touch with timemachines, mike cousineau. i sent mike 4 watches non running, they came back today, keeping time, and looking like new. his charges were more than reasonable, and turnover time was less than a month. ive talked with mike several times on the phone and hes such a nice guy, and very helpful. im sure ive asked him some stupid questions but hes had the patience to answer them in detail.

I am working on a 11AC with a bad hairspring. I have a donor movement with a good balance assembly. Will it be out of beat with a different balance or are they pretty close in matching?

 I have a 1931 woman's watch and need the crystal. The problem is it looks like the crystal was place from the inside and then was framed by another piece of metal to hold it. I cant slide a crystal into the grove. These pictures aren't great but you can see the grove. Any ideas would be great

i was wondering if it is possible to retro fit old movments with a new silicon spring...would it be worth doing? do you vibrate them just like a metal spring?are they easier to form and manipualate? hard to deform? if so then it would be better then a metal spring..also they have a better time keeping abilty...

also what is acceptable beat error..also to fix beat error,lets say the watch is perfect other than being out of beat. would be put the watch in beat..is that correct because that is the way i understood,fixing beat error..

I am work on a 10AE and replaced the mainspring with a new one. When I wound the watch the mainspring end slips off the arbor. I tried bending the end a little tighter two different times and still slips. Any suggestions or should I punt and get another spring. The broken spring was steel and new one is alloy, I don't know of that makes a difference. It is a Bulova spring came in the cool holder. Thanks

Can someone tell me if the movement comes out through the front? It looks like someone was prying at the ring but it seems pretty solid.
