10AE mainspring

Submitted by JJ914 on

Hello,

I am work on a 10AE and replaced the mainspring with a new one. When I wound the watch the mainspring end slips off the arbor. I tried bending the end a little tighter two different times and still slips. Any suggestions or should I punt and get another spring. The broken spring was steel and new one is alloy, I don't know of that makes a difference. It is a Bulova spring came in the cool holder. Thanks

It is a bit of an art to get the end to fit snugly on the arbor. I use round nose jeweller's pliers to gently curve the end so it hugs the arbor. The other possibility is that the spring is in upside down, sometimes it looks like the hook is in place, but is actually facing the wrong way.
