Watch Repair

Alright..... long story short.... I lost the Set Lever @ 5AM putting the finishing touches on this watch and have about lost my mind. Any ideas on where to get one or what model shares comnpatibility?

I'm looking for a mainspring for a 7 EDAD. Advice on a good place to aquire one would be appreciated. Is that the same movement as the 7 EDA with a date function, hence the additional D?

Thought was a 39 but maybe early 40,s. Left at jewelry store for an estimate to restore it .

They told me I'd probably be surprised at the cost but I would really have something if I got it running and all that. What do they run price wise when they don't work at all,get cleaned and a new band? Any ideas on whats fair and what this would be valued at if refurbished? Its really pretty.I' ve actually worn it at work one day,as is and it was beautiful.

I have a 1967 Spaceview that will not run properly with modern batteries. From the web I have learned there are a number of people who fix this problem, but there are a number of approaches. One is to replace the innards with newer parts; I do not want to do that. Other approaches involve putting a resistor in to fix the voltage level. I would prefer the latter, but am hesitant to send the watch off without having some independent references as to the honesty and quality of the repair person. Does anyone have experience with this?

Just thought I'd pass this one on. Used some 1500 grit wet and dry paper on a really rough crystal, tried wet but too messy, so used it dry, in one inch squares, much better, just wiped off dust regularly. Looked like it was FUBAR when I was done, all foggy, but polished it with Brasso and WOW! Just like new! Ideal for those who can't find new crystals for their cherished oldies. Only tried on acrylic and early plastic types,not mineral or glass crystals yet, but will try and will let you all know how I get on.

Do you think that a too short mainspring can make a watch run fast. The end broke off the new spring about 3/4 inch from the end so I tried heating it and bending a new tongue. Which to my surprise worked. But it runs fast I demaged the watch checked the hairspring etc and all looks good. So I am suspect of the MS. Any thoughts?

I've been reading about Screwdrivers, mainly which ones are the best but stumbled onto a discussion in correctly 'dressing' the tips. One Watchmaker went as far as to have a set of screwdrivers dressed for one particular movement, which I found interesting.

Q: is there any preferable stone You use and which method to use in correctly dressing a Screwdriver tip?

We're attemting to 'fit' the tip to the screw slot without allowing it to bottom?

hello i have what looks to be an early 1920's ladies watch 15 jewel  6AF Movement looks to be in need of a mainspring. Has a 14kt gold plate case. Case is fancy engraved movement sits in a dust cover. Overall a nice ladies watch. I do not collect these and i can use the money getting others of  mine serviced. Free!!!
