Watch Description

Recently came upon this Bulova ladies wristwatch.  I'm trying to get more info and maybe value of the piece.  I cannot find another one like it anywhere!  I have learned a few things about the piece:

It is marked Bulova on the face

On the back it is marked "Bulova 14K Gold" and "L5" which I have learned notes the year it was made which was 1955

Each link of the bracelet says "Speidel USA".

There are 4 diamonds.

Inside says "5AD" and "17 Jewels". I would really appreciate any info if anyone knows more about this piece.

Treasure vs Treasurer

Submitted by NOVA on

Some of you will recall a long standing debate about whether there was a model called the "Treasure" or whether the "Treasure" listing in the crystal catalog was simply an error, and the only model that existed was the "Treasurer".

If you don't recall those discussions, then below is an example of one such exchange, which was originally posted here:  http://www.mybulova.com/watches/1953-unknown-1326

So Nova inspired me.

Went to the Minneapolis Hennepin Co Library today. Looked at and took pics of all theri Montgomery Wards fom about 1938-1960. Spoegels from aboit 1950-56.... library closed and i had about 5 or 6 more Spiegels fom about 57-59.

Lots of ads... maybe one suprise or two but not many.... also I took a picture of the cover of each catalog so we know which ad came from which catalog. Maybe we can cut down on some reresearching the same places over and over.

Dunno when I'll be able to get them downloaded. What fun! Seriously it was like treasure hunting!

Watch Description

I believe this is a first entry for an early model Alden. The flip-case serial number starts with a six, but the movement symbol of a circle suggests 1934. This movement also appears to be a late model 15J 10AN manufactured in the USA. Most of my other 1920s and 1930's 10AN's are Swiss made movements. This Alden is first seen in an ad in 1935, but the ads show a different numbered dial. This dial is similar, almost identical, to my 1936 Oakley in that it has a unique raised track dial - there is no printing on it...it's all raised gold and it only has hour markers and no numbers. I'll probably have this dial refinsihed because they come out really nice (see my Oakley as an example) and there no chance for mis-printing the dial since it only requires background color refinishing and painting the raised gold highlights. Flip-case is actually in very nice condition except a little wear-through. I'm probably going to have the bezel replated and it will shine like new - that's why I like these non-etched bezels because they can be replated and look new again without any detraction to the original design. I'll leave the case back as it is because you won't see the wear through there anyway. The case on one end reads, "Bulova" (small print above) "10k Rolled Gold Plate" with the Serial Number printed on the other end.

Watch Description

Interesting Ladies Bulova watch. 1941 7AM(C) 17J. All original except I replaced the 7ADC GM13 hands with 7ADC GRd13 (looks rather cool I think...where else would I use them?) and put on a 7ADC red sweep second to replace the blue one - the fit wasn't very good after I took it off as I would have preferred the blue. I love these little old ladies watches with sweep seconds! Inside of case says Bulova New York so it's an authentic Bulova case. Strong runner. I'll leave the dial alone...it's too good of condition and besides...it's a waste of money to spend $35-$40 refinsihing a dial for a Ladies watch unless it's your Grandmothers!
