What is it? - [ Archived ]

Hi all,

I would appreciate your help here! I bought this watch not too long ago, in a second-hand store, rather cheap, just because I liked the dial (very dark green). I assumed it to be a fake Bulova.

Yet my watchmaker claims it's a real one (which I find hard to believe, because the model is completely unknown to me and authenticity markers are missing). So what do you guys think? Thanks!

I purchased this watch based solely on this picture.  No guarantees.  I should receive it in a few days.

In the meantime, just trying to get a little info on what I bought .  I've already determined it's not the "Sea King" I originally assumed it to be.

Everything seems to point to "Date King" except all the examples on this site have the same hand style, which is clearly not the same as my watch.  Also no Date King examples with blue dial.

I'm working with admin to get my single grainy picture to upload. 

Imagine that your searching through your local flee market / boot sale / second hand shop and you come across an old Bulova watch....What is it???

I just bought this off the bay today i was going to pass until i saw the movement then i read the description. first why would the dial say Boston, and is it the original dial that been redone or a completely new dial? Secondly i think it might be a senator ?

I finally got out the light tent and am starting to shoot pics of the current amassed collection.

I picked up the watch shown at a local antique shop this February for $10, and the clerk wanted to be sure that I realized it didn't run!!!

Told him for that price I would take my chances.

This has an asteric for the date code and a 7AH 17 jewel movement, rolled gold plate case with a stainless back.

The case measures 20.6mm wide by 29.22 long not including the lugs.  The case is rectangular without any curve from top to bottom.

I just got this off the bay looks interesting. The movement is marked 10AA witch i find rather odd and look like a Lone Eagle III, also from the seller pics look like the case is 2 tone.

Strange Ebay acquisition. I had never heard of Elco 'til this came up, did a bit of research and find they made quality watches and movements. When it comes I will Investigate further, until then can anyone  offer any help?

this is a picture of the same watch i inherited from my grandfather.  1. does this watch have a model name?  also, during the watches lifetime, the hands were changed to a non luminous type (brown/gold and hard to read).  2. the luminous hands in the picture are what i'm looking for any ideas on where to get these hands?

Case serial number is 4576747. Watch is marked L1 on case and on movement. Movement is marked 17 jewels and 10 BM. It has a lot of honest wear but sets, runs, and keeps great time. I don't know much about vintage watches and usually just collect vintage sterling jewelry. I saw this on Ebay from one of my favorite sellers and won it for $21. It was very filthy outside, so I took your advice about the Brasso and Plastic X and cleaned it up. The case was really stuck with grime but the movement is very clean? Hope I can figure out how to add a picture!
