We've touched on this topic off and on throughout various watch posts, so I thought it would be useful to have a general discussion of it here.

The issue regards what is, or is not, a valid Bulova signature on a watch case.

There are those who believe that any watch without a Bulova signature inside the case back is not valid, call it a "recase" or a Frankbully, or whatever you like.

WOW.... how sweet is she!  If my wife collected I'm thinking she'd be all over this girl.

hello while working on my gladiator 10an..i was replacing the mainspring with a nice nos part..after a few tries to with no luck..i wonder what the problem was..then i notice that the inside of the barrel , the catch that the out side of the spring hooks on too isn't as large as it should, well i compared to a 10ae barrel i had..and realize the problem...the inside of the barrel was snaped off, so the last coil of the mainspring couldn't hook on to the barrel...i never heard of this and now i will always know what to look for...always check everything and you too won't waste 10 mins for not

I spoke with Rob at International Dial Co. today. It was a long conversation, but let me just say he has read all posted Forum comments and rightfully takes some offense at unfair criticisms, but also acknowleded some shortcoming and wants to improve. They are very busy, and they prioritize high-end watch projects. I suspected that, but didn't know that. I told him I didn't mind reasonable delays, a long as it was understood up front and follow-up e-mails regarding status updates were responded to in a timely fashion. Rob agrees.

Recently FifthAvenueRestorations (Mark) posted his observations on case serial numbers verses movement date codes. His observation was that the first number of the serial number located on the inside or outside of the caseback more often than not confirmed the movement date code on earlier Bulovas.

HELLO I JUST BOUGHT I WHAT I AM PRETTY SURE IS A SKY CHIEF..IT DIDN'T COME IN YET SINCE IT JUST ENDED..THE DIAL IS SHOT..BUT THE CASE LOOKED GOOD AND ALL THE GOLD ON THE BEZEL IS THERE...THE SELLER HAD IT LISTED AS 1927 BUT I HAVEN'T SEEN ONE THAT OLD IN THE DATABASE...SO I DON'T KNOW I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN BUYING A DIAL FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS ONE THAT IS ALITTLE BETTER,DOESN'T HAVE TO BE PERFECT OR HAVE THE SMALL NUMBERS LIKE THIS ONE HAS..I AM LOOKING

I got this movement in a lot of movements I grabbed for spare parts.  This movement is 15 jewels but has no movement designation nor does it have a serial number.  What I found most interesting is that it is marked Tissot at the botton of the movement.  Bulova was getting very high end ebausch movements when they acquired this one.
