Case dated by s/n and movement stamp indicate 1938. Gold plated case and back. Dial is a little chalked and it's missing the gold cap off the crown. Band is a replacement braided leather I scavenged off a quartz ladies watch that is a reasonable (for now) visual repro of the 3 cord leather as seen in the 1939 ad included. Currently keeping time.
Seems to be a 1938 Montgomery.
Very nice you were able to find a band for it. Nice addition to your collection.

1938 Bulova Montgomery is a good match
Montgomery was the first name that popped into my head as soon as I saw the watch with that distinctive recessed crown.
Hands look like they have been replaced, but an original pair shouldn't be too hard to source.

Interestingly, there are now 5 "Montys" in the Db. One 1937 and one 1939 with hands matching the ads. The other three, counting this one are all 1938 have the same stick hands. Coincidence?
1938 Bulova Montgomery
The illustration does not match the subject watch, IMO. There are notches at the corners of the central part of the case, but I haven't looked at the other Monty's yet.
EDIT:
The other Monty's loo the same, but still do not match the illustration, and I checked the other adverts for the Montgomery, and they all seem to depict a different watch as well. It's similar, but can all the illustrations be wrong? There are no corner notches shown in any of them.

I've replaced the ad above with a better one. This ad (new one) shows the notches.
Most evident in lower corners of included ad. I think this is likely a matter of artist rendition and the difficulty in showing the notches with shading.

I'm not seeing it, and I have gone over this quite a few times. Not only does the illustration not have any notches, but the case appears to be more tank-like, that is, it has straight sides, whereas the subject watch(es) all have curved outwards sides, tonneau style. I don't think these match at all.
