Beautiful Lone Eagle series III

It's missing the top and bottom markings we typically see on a LE III.

This case it starting to popup more and more. It'd be really nice to finally positively ID this one.

Sorry Wayne, will have to agree with the big guy on it not being a LE III. In fact, before I bought this watch it popped up in a post on LE's and my immediate reaction was - 'no hash marks, can't be an Eagle'.

geoff

It's a complete Lone Eagle series III watch  (without bezel crossbar chevrons). We have a lack of ads for the early 1930s. In all of the ads for the LE III the vertical engraving is the same. The 1933 ads show a LE III without chevrons (same vertical engraving as your watch). If your watch was 1933 manufactured it would be a Lone Eagle III. I have a 1931 two-tone Lone Eagle III (same vertical engraving pattern as yours). We have a few Lone Eagles stuck in limbo because of no bezel crossbar chevrons. I am not so pragmatic as to say these watches can't be Lone Eagles. Comparing the 1931 Ad & 1933 ads indicate to me that these watches are Lone Eagle varients. None of the period ads show another named watch having the same shape.

Steven, I don't see any 1933 Lone Eagle IIIs with chevrons

I still believe that this is a precursor to the 1931/32 Lone Eagle III.

Time will tell when an ad finally confirms the model one way or another.

resembles the 'GLADIATOR' -

distinct lug difference to the LE III + no horizontal bezel embellishments.

I agree the Case design does look similar the 1933+ Lone Eagle ads, but that would make it a Lone Eagle IV (currently) as this design differs from the 1931 Lone Eagle ads.

Lone Eagle III Steps are straight up & down & Lone Eagle IV has V-Shaped steps. The subject watch has straight up & down steps.

The Gladiator has rounded steps & very different engraving.

I agree with Wayne, the Gladiator case is somewhat different.

The hunt continues!

Geoff and chance of seeing photos of the inside of this watch?
