In reply to Jim - Once you have this one by Geoff Baker
Will do Geoff
Hmmmm curious. Having better info and photos will certainly help with this one as there are a number of interesting points listed in the description. I look forward to seeing the updated photos and confirmed information on this one.
Take that sticky tape off the box too! Fix it on the inside using stiff paper and pva adhesive.
What photos would you like ? It should be here on monday tracking is telling me. I can check the date symbol on the movement then. Anyone know why the crystal is yellow looking? I will change this for sure unless that would make it non conforming.
Early watch crystals are mostly made of nitro-cellulose, this material is basically made from wood pulp, with certain additives and chemicals which with age will yellow. I have read that a chemical called lignite is the main cause of turning yellow.( "lignum" is Latin for "wood).
Think of how paper yellows with age, this too is made from wood pulp as you know.
So it would be accepted to change the crystal.
Nitro is also quite flammable.
Will be here today tracking shows its in my home town. Will update
