Correct crown for Bulova Oceanographer 1968

Submitted by francescofromitaly on

Hello everybody! i'm new on this forum and i hope that you can help me.

Unfortunatelly my 1968 Oceanographer (with Cal. 11 BLACD) has lost its original crown, now i need a new one and i found this (check the link and pictures below) on ebay. Someone of you can tell me if is correct? i've already talk with the seller and he told me that he is not sure. It is a #74Y Yellow 11ALACD 5.7mm crown.
thanks in advance!

It looks like the Oceanographer 'D'. If the case number is 2892, the ABC catalog says it came with both a 74Y and 74W, depending on if the case is gold color or stainless steel. As this one is two tone I don't know if it is considered Y or W, but that Oceanographer D I linked was NOS and came with a yellow crown, so I would assume the 74Y is the correct one.

Thank you so much! yes the case is in stainless steel and has "2892" number printed on inside, moreover i remember that the original crown was yellow. unfortunately there isnt some manual where we can read that the crown 74Y could go with a 11BLACD cal.(?)
Maybe there are other members that could help me? could you tag them? i'm new on the forum

Crowns are not movement specific, they are case specific. There is a manual that tells you what crown goes with what case, it's the ABC Catalog and I included the relevant page above that shows the 74Y or 74W is the correct crown for case 2892. Since you remember it being gold colored you would want the 74Y.

Thanks, one of us will check that reference number and let you know the correct corresponding crown part number for that case and movement combo.
