Watch Description

I acquired this watch from my late grandfather's personal effects after he past. It was found with other watches and silver coins so I suspect he picked it up at a flea market or similar because it was gold. I don't think it was something he wore because he was a simple farm man. He only needed to know three times of day. Sun up, noon, and sun down. Plus I don't ever remember him wearing it. I reached out to an Accutron repair man in Illinois several years ago but never sent it off service. Plus I was worried I'd never get it back. I have done a little research but i would like to see what you all think.

Forgot to mention it is not running but does "hum" when new battery is installed.

There is a 1968 Advert page (color ad) on this site showing a Calendar "M" model in 18K that is very similar. Mine has the gold tone face and was found with no stap/band, but it has the same tuning forks applied to the 12, 6 and 9 o'clock positions. I have added a vintage original Bulova lizard strap/band in black with a 1/20 10kgf tuning fork buckle. I think it complements it nicely although it is short for my wrist (buckles on last hole tightly). I would be interested in a strap trade if someone had a longer original similar to this one or one that was more appropriate for this model.

Movement Model is a typo. It should be 218D.

Linebook lists as thre Bulova Accutron Calendar "M".

I'm not sure however with the match gold bracelet is considered part of the variant. It was the old 18K gold match I could find.

Makes sense. The chance of finding an original 18k band is probably 0%. But it appears many of the 18k gold watches also could be had with alligator leather bands with either 14k or 18k buckles. I think that would be a much more achievable.

Unfortunately, a lot of these solid gold bands got scrapped during hard times. People would keep the watch and downgrade to a cheaper band to raise cash.
