This watch has me stumped. It is a 1967 14KT Solid Gold Case with an M7 date code. It was a presentation watch given in May of 1969 for 25 years of service at IBM. When I opened it I was shocked to find a quartz movement in the case. It has what appears to be a gold cover on the movement and I see no movment model number. Just Accutron 247 Cell. It clearly is a 1967 Accutron Calendar but what about the movement? Could this be a replaced movement? DId Bulova use old cases for new Accuquartz watches in 1970?
Actually the opposite Jim. When an Accutron, or any Bulova came into one of the authorized service centers a new movement was installed. In this case the watch got a full on quartz movement, probably in the late 1970's.
The movt reference number is on the outer edge, below and to the left of the Accutron logo.
So are we thinking this has been retro fitted with an AccuQuartz movement?
It was probably considered an upgrade back then too.
I would be inclined to ID and date this by the case, noting a replaced movement.
I would also be inclinded to ID this by the case noting the replacement movement.
1967 Bulova Accutron
Hmmm a few variations, dial numbers and position of 'Accutron' Could be the 'E".
I've not been able to find an alternative, so happy with Accutron Calander "E" for now.
Note: the Accutron Calendar "C" is also 14Kt solid and very similar the the "E".
