Watch Description

Hi all,  My dad wore this watch from when I was very young till he passed in 1975. I was 15 when he passed and I wear his watch on his birthday.  it still works fine.  I really don't know any history behind it and I appreciate your help to share that with me.  I guessed on the year since I saw a stamp on the back with what appears to be A9.  The serial number I listed is on the back of the case as well.  Thank you, Frank

Front of watch both movements work just fine
Back of watch with two stamps on it. Appears to be A9 but not sure.

Hi Frank, welcome to myBulova. Congratulations on having your fathers watch, I'm a big fan of heirloom watches. The A9 date code is for 1949 (I'll update the year in the record). Your watch is called the Windsor, we have several in our data base. Here's one like yours. I suspect the dial has been repainted to black at some point in the past.

Hi, Geoff,  Thank you so much for helping me to identify my dad's watch.  I am 61 now and remember him wearing it and I have had it since he passed in 1975.  I love to wear it, but only on his birthday so I don't take a chance on damaging it.  I am going to clean it and that is all I want to do to keep it as he wore it then.  I can't wait to tell my sister about the history.

Thank you!

Frank

Frank - I have no fewer than four of my fathers watches but I love the idea of wearing on his birthday.. He would have been 93 on December 14. I already know which one I'll choose!

Welcome.   What a great idea to wear your heirloom watch on the birthday of the owner.  I agree this is a 1949 Bulova Windsor noting the dial appears to be repainted black.   They actually should have come this way as it makes for a very attractive watch.

Thank you, Jim!  I am very excited to know when it was made, and have a bit of history about it now.  To think it is 71 years old and works like it did when dad wore it.  This makes my day.
