From my research - it looks to me to be a  1951 Bulova Windsor.  movement code is "L1" dating it to 1951 - the Movement reference 10BM was produced between 1949-1954 Not currently running - a project to be worked upon.

Thank you for the comments. I have found a watchmaker to help me get this running, have cleaned the case and crystal myself and it is already showing signs of being a wonderful acquisition.

Update. 

Watch now serviced and running like a train, keeping really good time. 

crystal and case cleaned and new leather bracelet fitted.
