This watch was given to my father by my mother in the early seventies. It was purchaced at Zales Jewlers at South Dekalb Mall near Atlants Ga.. The purchace price was around 2K. I know it's a Accuquartz and is 18 k gold.
I have 2 questions:
1: Does the second hand sweep or tick?
2: What would be the chance of finding extra links for the band?

That is a beautiful watch CD, you are most fortunate to have your father's watch. Most of us crazy watch collectors place the highest value on heirloom pieces. You win on both! That tuning fork bracelet is over the top, I love it.
I don't think we have a advert showing this watch. I believe we would name it "Accuquartz Day/Date"
The minute hand on an Accutron sweeps - it doesn't tick. I believe the Accuquartz does as well as it's the same drive mechanism.
Doubt you will find links but if they're 18 k solid gold, a custom shop would be able to make new ones for you. You could probably have them lengthen the closure as well.

Mr Baker, thank you for your comments. I am very proud of this watch because it was my fathers. I cant imagain the movement has been replaced. The only time I know it has left our hands was when I sent it to Bulovia for service in 2008. Would they have possibly changed the movement? Also, are there any identifing marks on the movement that I could look for.
As for the links, I checked with a local shop and they priced custom made links at 300. each. That would be times 4. I'm having them extend the ladder instead (300 bucks). Will that hurt the value?
I guess the value isnt really that important being this is a heirloom piece. I really dont want to do anything to hurt that value either. I do intend to have the piece apraised for insurance reasons.

CD - I don't think that adding to the 'ladder' diminishes the watch value at all, in fact, you're adding gold so......
Check the link Stephen (admin) added below - it shows what the 'ladder' might have looked like originally, or perhaps yours show what THAT one looked like before it was shortened.
What is it that makes you think the movement was changed? Perhaps when you have the bracelet extended you could have the back removed and photograph the movement.

Geoff, The reason I think the movement may have been replaced is because the second hand ticks instead of sweeps. I have several quartz movements and they all tick but I have heard the Acuquartz is supposed to sweep. Any thoughts on this?
I can have the back removed and take some photos to post if it will help.

If Bulova was the only servicer, it's possible they did a swap with your fathers permission. Does it devalue the watch if it they did? It's an heirloom, I say no. I have a Bulova I got from my own father, it's my most treasured watch although from a collectors prespective, it's worth the least.
