*1967 appears to be the inaugural Year for the infamous Bulova Whale which I believe is a nod to the Sag Harbor Whaling tradition, Sag Harbor being the location of the Bulova Watch factory.

that's exactly what I am thinking, a 'SEA KING'
looking like 5 miles of bad road I purchased it for the 1967 date code and the Whale insignia.
I have a question as to its' relevance in to the Whalers museum, hopefully they respond. I do know that the last Whaling vessel sailed from Sag Harbor in 1869.

These two 1969 Bulova Sea King "CD" are a good example of how the same watch model can have different case stamping, which might suggest different manufacture locations and/or practises. Note the case backs of these 2 watches.

Today, this from the Sag Harbor Whaling Museum:
'Thank you for your inquiry.
The first Sag Harbor Whalers Festival took place in June 1963.
The 1966 festival was notable in that an invitation was issued to Norway’s Crown Prince Harold for a whaleboat competition between Norse and American crews. It was the first year the race was opened to international participation (albeit, evidently, only Norway was invited, perhaps as a nod to their whaling heritage). The race took place Sunday June 19th, with the US represented by a crew of Coast Guardsman and Norway by a crew of merchant sailors. Norway won.
In 1967, Norway returned to defend their title, and Finland sent a team as well - both were beaten by a team from the NY State Maritime College.
The last Sag Harbor whale ship (the brig Myra) departed in 1871, and was condemned in Barbados in 1874.
