Accutron 218D Railroad Approved Dial
A word about "Railroad Approved" Probably the most out of context model term in the history of Horology. Pocket watches used on Railroads had to be accurate. So inspectors and conductors were in charge of checking for accuracy and making sure all employees on the trains lines timepieces were so-called "Approved", Hence the term Railroad Approved.
Bulova had their "Transportation Special or Train Timer" models made for industrial use and partnered with many Railroads and Transportation Services. Those manual winding models evolved to the Railroad Approved models such as this Accutron. The truth is if you worked on a Railroad line you wouldn't want to wear such a ornate watch. The original Train Timer's from 1962 had heavy stainless cases. John V. -Time & Again
