Thank you for posting your watch.  It is very nice.  It appears to be a 1951 Bulova Watertite "D".

Very nice example. Good ad match; I will agree

I know I don’t have a say in the determination of the identification of a watch but I think I have something to add here.

I was researching this watch for Hickory yesterday. I looked over ALL the Watertite ads. While it does resemble the “D”, the “M” is the only model that specifically describes gilt or gold numbers, trilons, and hands. None of the other variants among the member watches have gold number, trilons, and hands except a ‘51 Watertite that I think may be misidentified. But that’s a separate issue.

Based on the description of the “M”, please consider the possibility this could be a match for that variant.

Every member has a determination in the identification of watches added to myBulova. The panel just makes the final call based on all the information available.

It's this level of detail that we know can make all the difference when it comes to an accurate model ID, especially models that have numerous variants.

I found this in a 57 linebook that contained watches from 1951 (eg Berkshire), so it's highly plausible this falls within the time period in question.

NOTE what I think is reflection coming off the odd indicies, suggesting the gold metal.

I’m not sure if I see what you see in the picture but we know from the 1954 and that the “M” has “luminous raised gilt numerals, trylons, hands. Red sweep seconds hand.” While the line book doesn’t describe it in such detail, there’s nothing contradictory and the pictures match and they match the subject watch with the key identifier being the gold numbers, tyrlons, and hands.

I really see no difference other than a difference in the model excel workbook I received from from panel member andersok some time back. that workbook specifies the M as having a CHROME case and the D as having all stainless. Both are supported by the advert embedded in the workbook. I see and all stainless case here (I think)

That's the nicest dial I've ever seen on a Bulova this old. If it's been refinished it was done extremely well. Look how precise the seonds hand and the minute hand lines up with the outer seconds track. It's perfect.

There are radium burns on the dial. If it was refinished, it was done long ago. I’m inclined to think it’s completely original.

This example certainly looks like it has a chrome case: Bulova 1951 Watertite | myBulova.com

Subject watch looks to have an all stainless steel case.

Geoff are you able to post a snippet of Kens work to show the variation?
