Here is my latest acquisition... it just arrived today... my first one! There seems to be an ongoing debate as to whether this dial is correct for an Academy Award. Everything seems original on this watch. In fact, it is in remarkable condition other than a few chips to the glass crystal. Also, is interest in this watch diminishing? I was a bit surprised at what I got it for!

Yes, Sadly it would seem that the AA watch values are dropping or it may be this model is still not yet been widely reqognised. The Spiegals catalogue ad was only just recently discovered, about a month ago, by Jerin.
I put up the $40.00 bucks to own it, as for the time being it is the only known original that shows this case and dial as an AA watch. I thought it was money well spent. The ad is posted here on the site.
There is still hope though. I just saw a display case missing the insert sell for $50.00+.
BTW, Yours looks just too sweet! I'd say all original as well.
The "R" model- Dial variant is INDEED, the most common...
HOWEVER, just because they are pooing up on (monkey see/do/sell eBay, frankly doesn't mean much... They are still UNCOMMON indeed, considering these were manufatured for 1- 1.5 years time, in 1950+/-. So if there were perhaps 5000 pieces actually released (?) how many are still AROUND, in 2010+, 60 years later? Maybe HALF the original production?? I doubt it!?! And the (considered rare) models by other leading brands numbered in equivalent (i.e. small no.) production releases... VERY FEW (let alone, popular!) models were only offered for a year or two... Most were made in 25,000 - 100, 000 production volumes, over 5- 30+ year periods... (If not "resurrected," in various incarnations, after initial release!?)
