1950 Bulova "Academy Award" 7AA 21J movement date stamped 49,  White and Sliver "X" quadrant dial, Raised Gold markers and hands, 10K Yellow Gold filled bezel and back, New BB X2166 Glass crystal, New Brown padded leather band. Nice looking and good running watch, will replace leather strap when I find a original style expansion band. Bulova ad's show both the "X" style dial and the "Curtain" style dials on named AA models. "R" having the Quadrant Dial & "W" having the Curtain Dial Let the discussion continue...

Here's one in the box bought new by the current owners Father and handed down.

I own an identical and it's proof enough for Me - Acadamy Award.

'X' variant is the guess due to the X Dial.

The X variant also takes a different crystal, one that fits a curved bezel , yours, Waynes, and mine has flat crystal grooves and takes a flat crystal to match, GS CX 769FT, BB X 2168, No curvature and measures 21.6mm x 17.5mm. This AA variant is labled as  a "W" and the only one that takes this crystal number.

The X variant takes a GS CMX 326-36 or a BB MX 2160 which measures 21.6mm x 17.6mm and is curved on the 17.6mm side

Yours is an Academy Award "W" as far as I can tell, just like Marks and mine.

If you remove the movement, you should be able to see if the crystal grooves are flat on all dimensions, if they are it should be a "W" model

One thing I may mention are the 2 variants to the now named 'R' - one has a Gold Dial.
