Dial is consistant with a mid to late 40's design, You'll find the earlier version to have larger numerals. Movement is stamped 49.

Hey Wayne... as per a new ad from 1942-43... check this out.. they were side by side in the ad but wow...   It almost looks like a "Spencer" from the case/dial combo.  I'm wondering if they changed it from the Spencer to the President at some point.  Maybe during 1942-3 it was the Spencer?  Sort of throws a monkey wrench everything though.. heh.

Plains,

Variation to the case on the Spencer makes its shape more like a Senator, the step on the bezel throws in a hint of Baxter but it does clearly show the exploding smaller numeral dial as being available. Can You nail the date down on the ad as it could quite possibly be the first Year for this dial design. '42 or '43?

I'll guess 1943.

I got the ad from the Sears, Roebuck & Co, catalog, Fall-Winter 1942-43

That's about the best I can do.... late 1942 to early 1943

I opened the watch & sure enough, there was the cleanest 49 stamp I have ever seen.

Case SN may suggest 1942 unless there is a 49 or J9 on the case, which may "trump" the case SN.  Also movement pic looks like a 7AK.  This is one of the youngest President E in watch DB.  Could it be a marriage w/ 1949 movement?
