Watch Description

Just picked this one up and wanted to post it, as well as ask a few questions.  It just arrived and the pictures are from the eBay listing.

First, the movement is a 17 jewel, 1926 9AN, with a triangle date stamp.  It also has an arrow, and I found the prior discussion of 1926 movements with arrows, so I guess it’s a known anomaly http://www.mybulova.com/watches/1926-conqueror-53   The beginning number of the case is an 8, and the case also has the Jan. 11, 1927 patent date on it, so I’m assuming the proper date is 1928, despite the movement dating two years prior.  Is that normal?  I did find another 1928 President in the database with a 9AN movement, albeit with a 1928 date stamp (crescent) http://www.mybulova.com/watches/1928-president-3395 .  Like the other 1928 in the database, mine has a broken hinge too.

Also, the watch came with a case, as pictured. While the seller said it was “original” to the watch, I assume it’s later?  1930 or so?  Also, interestingly, the case says “Cased and Timed at Sterling Tower Toronto”.   For what it’s worth, according to the Wikipedia article I found, Sterling Tower was completed in 1928.  Are there other cases from this period with the  Sterling Tower language?

BTW, I also have a nice 1925 President, as well as a 1930 model and a 1932 with the wandering seconds…

That's just beautiful!

My man Paleotime will be gnashing his teeth over that case! (haha!)

Just like this 1930 advert, but obviously north of the border in Rob'n'Shawnworld!

Yes, there are other movements from 1926 and thereabouts that have the 'arrow', but it's a moot point exactly what it stands for. It's fine for a 1926 movement to be in a 1928 case, no problem with it.

The box, well, that's  from later but it's for the President model in that style, so I shouldn't worry about it either. Just be glad and proud you got them all together!

Great watch,

Bob.

Bob,

Thanks for the encouraging comments.  As I mentioned, I also have a nice 1930 President. Its probably a better match for the box...

I don't know about other display boxes w/ the Sterling Tower verbiage.  I have the same green president box, so I'll check. Good question.  Also don't know when sterling tower was completed, but Wikipedia has been wroing on things before.  In this instance, Wikipedia date of 1928 corrisponds exactly with year of watch, so sounds like Wikipedia got it right!

I'm good w/ 1928 Pres!! Nice watch and box.

I do see the arrow or chevron also on movement plate.  A head-scratcher.

Beautiful watch David, I think it's a 1928 President. I do not have a problem with the two year date shift on the movement. Agree that the display case is better suited to the 1930.

These cases had a watch holder that came up when the lids were opened. There's a photo of a Lone Eagle version in this thread:

HI, to shed some light on the date, can you let me know what is the case signature? Is it "Bulova" with "New York" or "Bulova" with "American Standard"? Thanks!
