Watch Description

I'm not exactly sure what I have. From my research and limited knowledge, i believe it could be a surplus or non-issued A-11. Any help in getting this positively identified would be very helpful and appreciated. Also any strap recommendations would be welcomed. I'm going to try wearing it, but it may wind up being too small for my wrist. I picked it up at a thrift shop and it runs pretty well, but if it's going to be a keeper I will have it serviced. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for sharing your watch with us. Based on the lack of military stamping on the back, this was never meant to be issued. It was produced for the civilian market. We classify this model as

Military - Non Issue

like THIS ONE which is sporting what I would consider a correct band, like the issued version.

Wonder if these were lunch box watches. An employee of Bulova would stick one or two in their lunch box before they reached the end of the production line, where the back was stamped, and take them home with them. I've seen lunch box guns before. These companies didn't have security cameras and such back in those days.

Looks like an "X" date code, for 1943, on the movement.

Movement should be stamped 10AK.

The case serial number does look correct for Bulova.

1943 Bulova Non-military Issue would be an appropriate ID. Certainly a keeper and a great watch to have in any vintage watch collection.
