Linebook match to a Bulova Clipper "R", featuring the E.C.A.C Ice Hockey Championship Tournament custom award dial.
The 1974 ECAC Hockey Men's Ice Hockey Tournament was the 13th tournament in league history. It was played between March 5 and March 9, 1974. Quarterfinal games were played at home team campus sites, while the 'final four' games were played at the Boston Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. By reaching the championship game, both Boston University and Harvard received invitations to participate in the 1974 NCAA Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament.
Boston University beat Harvard 4-2 in the championship game.
Back of the watch is engraved WINNER 1974
Movement is stamped N4, case is stamped N3.
The photos don't do the dial justice. Picked this fantastic watch up here is Australia which is something of a rarity in itself.
We recently added this advert to the site showing how Bulova advertised their sporting custom dial watch service.

Just noticed the advert above indicates a minimum order of 12.
Also states the 'Bulova Athletic Award Program'.
Clipper "R" looks to be a good match
Nice find!
Very nice! Excellent 1971 ad find as well. I have to say, this is the first custom sports dial I have ever seen for a Hockey tournament. Production numbers were likely quite small on this one. Based on case date, rather than engraving; I'm inclined to call this one.
1973 Clipper "R" noting custom Bulova produced dial (and presentation date as 1974).
1973 Bulova Clipper "R" is a great match. I believe college teams are allowed 25 players and assume coaches at 5 etc you would guess the watch is one of 30. I can't imagine your excitement seeing this in Australia. It must be a real thrill to find a nice Bulova down under.

Vintage watches in general are a rarity down here. So finding a Bulova, especially one as nice as this one is a special treat....and one that doesn't come with an exchange rate of 137% :-)
This is a really cool find, congrats! In ad and linebook finds as well.

I wonder which player the watch belonged to?

1973 Bulova Clipper R. Today we don't call it the final four, we call it the FROZEN Four!
