Accutron Calendar - I picked this up a few days ago in an estate lot with 7 other watches. I'm guessing the previous owner was having trouble seeing the hands. The hands were painted black, I'm guessing felt tip marker. I removed the hands and gently cleaned them, removing most of the black. There are still specks of black on the lume and a little hole in the lume of the minute hand. I tossed in a battery and it runs. The bracelet is interesting. It's turquoise stones with 12K GF over sterling silver.
I'm curious about the placement of the tuning fork symbol and ACCUTRON on the dials of different watches I've seen. I've seen the tuning fork at 9 o'clock, at 12 o'clock as the marker, at 12 o'clock below the marker. I've seen the accutron at 9 o'clock and 12 o'clock in various forms. Is there a story behind the differences?
Just do a search on E-BAY for "watch tips" and you will find plenty of these in different widths. They attach to any watch band.
Thanks denupnorth! I didn't know they had their own name.
Accutron 218 D (DATE) M8 (1968)
For reference you can easily fill in-repaint (minature brush) the luma hands inserts with Day Glo acrylic Paint in a white or yellow. Sells in small jars, glows when light penitrates.
