1960 Bulova American Eagle's in 10K White and Yellow RGP with Stainless backs. Both have White satin dials with applied markers & hands corresponding to the bezel colors. Both have M0 17J 11AF movements, and have the "hooded" bottom lugs. I picked these up for a song as non-working watches from a seller that just wanted to sell stuff, all they needed was a bath and lube. I will replace the hands when I can find some, they look good when on the wrist, but the macro setting really picks up the corrosion on them. The straps are Speidel padded genuine leather. * 8-9-12 edit these to generic American Eagles, it looks like Bulova used the entire alphabet for variants on these!

From the '60-66 crystal catalogs that I have, there is only an American Eagle "E" & model# 1213D listed for this crystal shape. There is an American Eagle "F" listed, but that is a 28.1mm round press fit crystal, so that splashes water on the letter designation theory...and then there is just an American Eagle that takes a CMX ( curved rectangle) crystal (pre 1960?)
I am thinking that the "E" was another model with the customer choice of dial variant installed at purchase (up-sell), and I know that there is the "tang" lugged version out there that you don't see much of, early or later version??
I don't think they made these more than 1 or 2 years, so maybe there is a 1960-62 ad out there that will shed more light??

Hmmm, now that's very interesting. I do agree with your thoughts on the production years. I've only ever come across 1960 models. Still, I find it strange that they would use the letter "E" designation when we know of 4 different variations. I'm pretty certain there is also a white linen dial as I sold one a while back.
Maybe they used "E" because they had 5 variations? Jeesh, Bulova strikes again with the worm can.
Whatever the case is we can be certain of "American Eagle" for an ID. Yours are pretty sweet BTW.

Your right Shawn, this case style so far is exclusive to 1960, and even admin. has an example of the 4 tang model in there, the top lugs look kind of bent back, but it is White Gold...Lol, maybe it was a 1 year wonder! White Gold, Yellow Gold, Textured Dials, White, Black dials, different lugs...They sure were busy with this one!
If these are listed as a tentative "E" model, at least they won't be confused with the others, like this 1946 ad.
