Watch Description

A 1946 AMERICAN EAGLE has not been IDed before. This is my candidate. Back of the case has enscribed date 12-25-46. Case is one of three types I have seen  with 1946 movements that might fit the picture in the ad for 1946. The other two have lugs that inclose the corners of the crystal.

There are Vintage ads in the database to aid in Model identification, the above is Dated 1946.

Looks like a well worn " Director" to me.

Or Statesman.  Not sure from the ad how you would tell those two apart.  The dial on the Director is certainly different from the subject watch.

Nope, the statesman has a slight step in the lug, the director's are faceted and smooth.

The myBulova 1946 Director has a different arrangement of the numerals on the dial, long thin hands,  and notches on the lugs.  The lugs are also a different shape and more angularly defined.  My personal 1946 Statesman has different lugs, a longer dial, hands that are straight and thin, and numerals that are a different shape. The 1947 (no 1946 in the myBulova data set) example of His Excellency also has the notched lugs.

The lugs on my candidate are solid and do not extend beyond the crystal, which convincinced me this was what was depicted.  There are some other 1946-1950 watches I have seen that share the same case and movement with lugs that are clearly different than what is in the advertisement picture.

Are We looking at the same Watch? The Dial is possibly 'HIS EXCELLENCY'

1946 'DIRECTOR'

Statesman dial, Director case. Who's to say Bulova didn't use both dial on both cases. That wouldn't suprise me at all.

Fifth Ave.'s picture shows the notched lugs at the corners of the crystal and thin hands. The dial arrangement is also different from a STATESMAN which has all the numbers.. The lugs on a Statesman are also notched but are rounded on the ends, with a crease that follows the highlight line.

Haven't learned this input section yet! The ad picture show all numbers, hands that are "leaf shaped" (don't know the correct term)  and lugs that don't extend beyond the crystal

JCEagle, Your Crystal is taller replacement, Hands are Arrow style or similar.

I see no notable difference in the Case, I do however see the Dial discrepency. IMO the Dial is that of an 'EXCELLENCY'.
