hello all,
I need advice on polishing out a nick or deep scratch from a glass crystal.
its for a watch thats not worth replacing the crystal on,I figure what do I have to lose .maybe I can gain experience.
is there a special grit paper or polish? I would appreciate anyones advice.

Hey Bob, PlastX from AutoZone, like $6 for a big squeeze bottle, and works great, pretty clean too. Designed for plastic headlight covers....sorta soaks into a buff on a dremel so its harder to burn the plastic..still hafta be carefull tho. Works by hand as well. I use it to hand polish bezels as well, it is very very fine and leaves no visible scratches at 10X. And did I mention its a big bottle for about $6??? el cheapo !!!

If you have a buffing wheel and the rouge. You could try Krystal Kleer rouge type glass and plastic crystal polish. You can pick that up usually at any watch material supply. I use it here at the shop and it works great for glass and plastic. The only thing is its not designed for the deep stuff. If its deep enough you'll gald the glass if you hold it there to long. I usually just have one made by my crystal maker and replace them if they're that deep.

Know nothing on clearing a glass one, I guess something more abrasive at high speed would work, maybe car paint compound? Works on glass headlights but if its deep it would take some time. On this subject what is the best method on gluing in the crystal, would you apply it to the case 1st or the edge of the crystal? How long do you have to work with it before it cures? What is a good product to use? Thanks
