Rhodium plating

Submitted by FifthAvenueRes… on

I, as many do have some deco era 'bright finish' Cases showing wear on the high spots. Research has found that this finish is Rhodium over the base metal of the Case.

Q's: has anyone had a Case replated with Rhodium, who did it and how satisfied with the results were You?

Some quotes out there on the net for Watch Cases are around $35 which I think is very reasonable considering.

I found this quite interesting... 1950's ad

I don't know the exact date on this... but it was a two paged ad.  Bulova movements and Elgin movments in what seem to be high end diamond ladies cases?  Was this a partnership at one time I'm sure?

Usually when your looking at recases your looking at old Anchor brand or some of the others.... but these seem very specificly marketed as a bit higher scale?

Bulova Caravelle

Submitted by jfoley on

I recently bought at a swap meet a Bulova Caravelle with an exhibition back. My research done through local watch collectors said it was a salesman's model. It was used by a Bulova salesman to show the inner workings of the Caravelle without removing the back. The metal around the exhibition back reads Caravelle, Anti-Magnetic, Base Metal Case, Shock Resistant. The movement is marked Caravelle Watch, Seven, 7, Jewels, 11DP. My question is is this assessment correct and if so, wouldn't this watch be quite rare? It has no numbered date as most Bulovas, including Caravelles, have.

Pater or Patricia

Submitted by William Smith on

I was reading a thread from FifthAvenueRestoration on Pater vs Patricia...and I lost the thread.  I have a couple of these Pater or Patricia....or very similar. (Probably a dozen + of this type/vintage).  I had been calling them paperweights up till now, since there were soo many variations on case patterns in these early Bulova.
