Adjusting VINTAGE 'scissor' stye expansion bands?

Submitted by oilseed on

I have an older 'vintage' Hadley expansion band.  these are put together 'differently' than the current straight line U clip expansion bands. The Vintage ones are more SCISSOR LIKE Link to link, expansion).  For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to remove links to size the band.  what's the trick??  I cannot locate any online articles or video's on how this is accomplished.

thanks for your assistance

Correct Band For An Astronaut Type 'O'

Hello all, I am a new member to the mybulova group, but have been an avid lover of Bulova watches since I was (much) younger.  I've collected a few Accutrons over the past 6 years and recently began "reacquainting" myself with them in hopes of resurrecting them.  Recently, I acquired an Astronaut Type "O" with the day/night bezel and enhanced silver dial.  Sadly, the watch came without a watch band.  I would like to find one that is correct for the watch, so I have a question for the knowledgeable folks on this forum.

Hi all,

I friend of mine offered me this 1969 watch.

I was unable to find online many resources regarding this model and I am having a problem understanding if all the parts are original and coeval

To me, all seems ok, even if I normally see the second hand in red.

I would like some expert advice ;-)

Jet Star Collection

Hello everyone,

My name is Mike and I am on a mission to collect all 10 Jet Star Models, and I am very close to completing the collection.  My question is... Does anyone here, have any knowledge of any other collector that has another complete Jet Star collection?   I have to imagine I am not the only collector to obtain all 10pcs, but I would like to know for sure.  I have reached out to several fellow Bulova collectors and nobody has knowledge of this being done before.  Any info or leads you may have would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you,

Counterfeit Bulova?

Hello everyone! Received a recent eBay purchase and it seems to be a mish-mash of watch parts. The dial says Bulova, however it does not say Swiss and seems to be in a paint color/style I have not seen before. Looking to see if Bulova dials always say Swiss on them. Also looking to see if they used this metallic copper paint on the dials. Close up pics of numerals look like thick paint. Does this most likely mean this was hand painted? Thanks!02/12/2022

1953 Jordan 14kt 21j 10BM movement

Hello all, I am new to the forums and I just picked up my first Bulova.  John with Time and Again has it now doing what he does so it may once be a gem again.  Its marked as a 53, From what I have gathered here is it should be a Jordan.  The other watches I have seen here are 17 jewels where mine is the 10bm with 21 jewels.  Also mine has a 14k gold case. Is this a more rare style of this watch?  I would like to learn what ever I can about this watch and the ones like it.

Hi, I purchased this watch about 20 years ago because I liked it and am not looking to sell it. I'm updating my insurance and my husband thinks this watch is actually 14kt gold and not gold filled like I had thought. It is stamped 14kt gold on the back of the case. The watch is in like new condition and runs and keeps decent time. It has a cobalt blue face and has a diamond bezel. The watch is really quite small and I think it dates to the 1970's just by looking at it. It's white gold, which was more unusual for that time period.

Accutron Quartz battery

Purchased an Accutron Quartz for my daughter. It was running when we bought it, but I noticed it was losing at least an hour a day and then it died a few days later.

On the back cover is the direction to use Bulova cell 247. I purchased a Renata 284 (7.9 x3.6mm) as that is supposed to be the available equivalent, but it was too tall to fit in the watch.

I was able to get a Renata 297 (7.9x2.6mm) into the battery well, however its still losing about an hour a day.
