This is a yellow gold plated cushion shaped watch which I estimate to be from the mid-1970s. I don't think it is represented in the database. The dial bears the name "Ambassador" and states that it is "Automatic". It has a heavy case and runs well. There is a date window at the 3 O'clock position. On the movement I can make out "Unadjusted - Swiss - 23 Jewels - Bulova Watch Co - movement type 11AOACD" Unfortunately there is no sign of a date code either on the case or anywhere on the movement. The inside rear cover states that the bezel is Gold Plated (20 Microns) and "Swiss". It bears the case reference 7687-1. The watch is 36mm wide and the back is stainless steel bearing the serial number 3 - 939480 which I believe is in the format used by the International Division.
I think you are on the money for 1975. I'm finding a 17J version of this watch minus the "Ambassador' dial print in the 1975 linebooks.. It's identical.
We've also seen the model name 'Ambassador' used a fair bit on the international models, so I would very much agree that this watch would fall into that category.
It could be a chicken V egg thing. Do we ID as a generic Bulova Ambassador or a Bulova International with the variant Ambassador?
I lean to the first option, a 1975 Bulova Ambassador.
Certainly an Ambassador. 1975 is in the middel of 11AOACD 23 J range
Thanks very much for your comments. It would be good to see the Line Book entry you refer to. How about "1975 Ambassador (International)" as a designation?
Agree it's an international model for a market outside the US.. Based on s/n starting with "3 - ", in my opinion, it was produced somewhere in Asia. I would say simply call it
1975 Ambassador.
1975 Linebook references showing the 17J version.
