This was another one of my recent "what the heck is that?" purchases. Case has a lot of subtle design details that make it pretty unusual. 8 sides, with a peak in the center of each side so that the center is higher than the corners that is complimented by the permanent bezel ring around the crystal being thicker in bezel corners than at sides. Nicely engraved top surface.
Dial is gilt gold with raised gold markers and a date window at "4". Nice clean case - crystal has a few scratches that will be addressed in short order. Runs a little slow as received but not bad. I love this mid 60's case engraving style. When I bought this, I was fairly confident it must be from the Commander family, with a closely matched replacement band. Much to my surprise, it appears in 1967 Linebook BAWDO165.
1966 Date King "AN" on the original JB (Jacoby Bender) band and I believe a first for the database
That is a striking watch, lots of details. I would have thought the band design would match the pattern of the bezel, but the patterns work together nicely.
Date King 'AN'
My initial thought about the band was the same as yours; but the ad clearly shows it's original and not a perfect pattern match.
Very cool watch, so 60s : )
