10KT Gold Filled, Shock Resistant, Anti-Magnetic, Self Winding, Water Proof Diamond chips ? in the 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11 position.
All ads in DB and example watches ID'ed in DB w/ three stars for either Bulova 23 or Beau Brummel say 23 Jewels on dail just below Bulova. Still no ad for six diamond dail, but this is 3rd example. l l
The diamond sets may have been added aftermarket. I've not seen those diamond mounts used on any Bulova diamond dial I've seen nor have I seen a diamond dial in that style case. Another mystery unfolds. Still a pretty good lookin watch!
Beau Brummel would get my 3 stars if I can find the 6 diamond version. Case looks right to me according the other BB models.
This is just the dial - aftermarket ? or redial? - all other BB's on site/in ads, and possibly the entire Bulova 23 series seem to have the major marketing ploy of "23 jewels" right below Bulova. Shawkey addressed this nicely, and he had such a stash of Bulova materials for his 2010 NAWCC Bulletin article discussing the Bulova 23 series and this marketing strategy, I don't think Bulova would have left "23 jewels" off the dial or moved it to where I think I see it in this dial.
But that's just the dial. It doesn't make it a frankenbully. Just my dial observations.
I agree, the positioning is different from the adverts we have.
This is a good example of a "Frankenbully"...
Bulova Movement, & case, but not a Bulova dial...It now has its own catagory to be filed under.
If and when a ad shows up that proves this dial was made and sold by Bulova, then it can be re-filed with its proper name as produced by Bulova
MN Ki, can we please get a bigger picture of the dial of the watch?
Interesting dial. At first I thought it said "Movement" under the 23 jewel script...but now I don't know what it says.
Perhaps an unknown, or at least something other than a Bulova 23? OT notes dial may be aftermarket and while it says Bulova, it ain't Bulova.
It reads "Selfwinding" below the "23 Jewels" on the dial. I think "23" is ok for now. Just because we haven't seen this dial before doesn't mean that it's not correct. It wasn't that long ago that colored stones on the dial was perceived as "aftermarket".
2 ticks for Bulova 23.
Maybe a Beau? I just checked every ad we have for Bulova 23's and they all have the 23 jewels listed under the 12 position. There's a subset of "23" ads here. Not so much questioning the dial being aftermarket as it being that of a Beau? The 23 jewel movements (and advertised models housing them) don't give us too many choices, so it's "Beau" or "Bulova 23" and I'm not sure what others there were during this timeframe.
