The dial looks like it's from a President model but I don't see the case style in the ad's.
I don't recall seeing a copper dial in a yellow case, is this a FrankenBully? The movement is dated '47 but the case serial begins with a 4.
2 very good observations Darren.
It appears that at some point the dial/movement was replaced on this '44 case with a '47 President dial/movement.
that's quite possible, and it looks like that to me too. Still a very nice watch. W/ a gold case, I can see how someone would like this nice custom combination.
Yeah, I like this style of markers and the copper dial does look good with the yellow case. Still working on my picture taking skills.
I may have this in an add I just received. I will check tonight.
The Watch looks very neatly put together, the Dial follows the lines of the Case Bezel perfectly.
This 'Dot - Dash' Dial appears in 1941 on the 'PRESIDENT', it's also seen in the 'CONRAD'.. and others. - 'SQUADRON' (?)
Is it too far of a stretch for a 1944 Case to have a 1947 Movement? ...particularly when the Case is solid 14k. Dating the Watch to the Movement is the correct way to go about this IMO, did it come this way is the big question mark.
If I had a 1944 solid gold case and the movement went south on me I would take it to a watch maker and tell him to put something good in it cause I wasn't planning on getting rid of it. That may explain the 47 movement. Some savy watch maker saw an opportunity to make a few bucks extra and create something never seen before.IMO
I REALLY have to go back and re-shoot some of my watch pics. Terrible. Currently I have a backlog of watches to add to the db so these aren't a priority.
Thanks for the comments and I think at least the movement was replaced post '47 if not the dial.
Another Pres?
