Hello everyone! Adding my new Bulova to the database. I think it is either a 1947 or 1948 Her Excellency H. Unfortunately it does not run, it feels like it is over wound and noticed some rust(?) on the side by the crown. Also, noticed some engraving on the inside of the bezel (or case, I'm not sure of the proper term?). Is this normal? It looks like Roman numerals maybe. Looking to see what you all think! Thanks!
Good ad find, you got it! S/N starting with "H" and "47" on movement indicates your watch is a 1947. The markings inside bezel edge are indeed Roman numerals. They appear to be "5 7 5". This was a practice more common in the 1920's and 30's. The last 3 numbers of the case back serial number inscribed (hand scratched) into bezel, to show them as a matched correct unit. Your s/n ends with "6 2 9", so it appears that during a previous repair/restore, the case back and movement or bezel was replaced. That or on the assembly floor, somebody inadvertently mixed parts. Not a big deal, as the Bulova case and movement dates match and watch is correct to model.

Yay, thank you! That is very interesting about the markings, there are also some other hand engraved markings on the opposite end of the bezel. So I'm guessing they are maybe service marks (repair/restore) like you said they could be. Also, in the back case a couple of the numbers do say 75 so that would make sense! I'm just glad everything matches up! I'm so happy I found this website and can learn these things from you all! Thank you!
Another nice Her Excellency watch for your collection and only the second for the DB. Here is mine https://www.mybulova.com/watches/1948-her-excellency-9282 I really love the slate grey dial on this one and yours is in nice condition. The band goes nicely as well.

Thank you! Yes, I love the grey dial too! I saw it online and the pictures were not clear but I thought I’d take a chance. The dial is in good condition, but unfortunately the movement by the crown is all gunked up and rusted so it is not in good condition like yours! I like your band, it matches so well!
