Hi everybody, I'm new on this site.I'd like to share with you my gorgeous Bulova and get also some informations on it! So ,is it an Ambassador?or a Tuxedo?or....? What year is it from? Thanks to the serial case number it would be easy to find but I don't know how to do it..! Thanks to answer me! Pascal
Pascal,
The Tux is a solid 14k model so '48 Ambassador would be My guess, You will need to remove the caseback to verify the Year.

In reply to Pascal, The Tux is a solid by FifthAvenueRes…
Thanks answering me! I don't dare to open it! and with the number on the back case :7540394 ?...
Could you also tell me please what's the difference between : gold plated and gold filled ?if there is one? Because in french we just say ": plaqué or " that means : gold plated .thanks
A little beyond My expertise but from what I understand there was a difference in the way the Gold was pressed into the base metal during manufacturing involving thickness of the Gold and the pressure used to bond the two.
Gold plate was rolled out before pressing into the base, Gold filled was pressed into the base in thicker bars using higher pressure.

You've got that right Fifth, and here's the specs for future reference.
Rolled Gold Plate, gold content is equal to 1/40 th of the weight of the case. Usually about 20 microns thick by todays measure.
Gold Filled , gold content is equal to 1/20 th of the weight of the case. Usually about 40 microns thick by todays measure.
Most watches today the gold is electroplated and is only 6-8 microns thick.

Your dial matches the 2-4-8-12 dial of the 1946 Ambassador ad. The case is an Ambassador. In order to confirm the year of your watch, watch must be opened to determine the movement date. The case number is useless for datiing purposes. If you really want to know, go to jewler & have it opened at very little cost, and document all markings, both on the movement & the inside of the case. With the picture of your watch & this 1946 ad, it is a very close match. That will determine the date of your Ambassador.
