This watch looks exactly like the Academy Award W watch, however, it is 14k Gold. It is marked on the inside of the watch case. 14k also appears on the outside of the case, however it is worn, as are the serial numerals. I acquired it years ago, inside of an Academy Awards Bulova box. PS I am unsure of the exact year, but it was required for submission. PPS The serial number is worn and it might be inaccurate.
Thank you all for your input and information. It is much appreciated. My partner collected watches for 20 years, in particular Bulova square or rectangle wristwatches. I list them a few at a time in my Etsy shop, and have been happy with the way they sell. Normally I use this site to get the model names, it is always an enjoyable and fun hunt, searching through the old adverts. I have learned so much from this wonderful website. But this watch had me stumped for sure.

If it were indeed a 14Kt solid gold AA it would probably be the "Y" variant at $115. Normal AAs are gold filled. Geoff, I think the one you reference above is the "Y".

However a 1946 case would make no sense on a AA watch, so I'm quite sure that the serial number does not relate to the year on this watch. We have numerous examples in the database showing this.
If you look at the caseback photo.you can see the remains of 'LD" above the BULOVA, which I take as part of SOLID GOLD. If this is the case then I suspect that the LO or L1 is also gone from wear.
So based on this, I'm inclined to agree with Geoff and say it's a 1950/51 Bulova Academy Award "Y".

I think a better picture of the subbject watch is needed....I'm in two minds about the lugs. The advert render might not show the curve in the lugs.

OK well that's annoying...now we have two different adverts for the Academy Award "Y", showing two different dials. Both solid gold, both $115. Altrhough is the rigfht advert shoing "Y" not as the variant bit as the ad identifier? Both show the lugs with a distictive edge rather than smooth like the subject watch.
