The watch has no other provenance other than it was bought in June of 2025 in an antique shop in Connecticut. It was serviced by an amateur watchmaker. The case back is marked with a serial number and Bulova Quality. The inside of the case back is unmarked except with a faint jeweler’s mark. The dial looks like a white Black Hawk dial, but the hands are not luminous. The sweep hand is not red, but short and black. The hands are more like those on a Surgeon. Could it be a redialed Surgeon? Could it be a Black Hawk with replacement hands? Perhaps it is an unknown or non conforming. I leave it to you learned gentlemen and ladies to decide.
Thanks for sharing. Movement dated 1943 and case date by s/n as 1944. I haven't seen a white dial Surgeon dated this late, but there is always a first time. Dial and hands correct for 1941/42 and by some time in 1943 the dial went to black with lumed numbers as were the Black Hawk model.. It is most likely a mid to late 1943 assembly using a 44 case and a possibly left over white dial. As presented, I have no issues IDing your watch as a
1944 Surgeon.

Very interesting analysis. Thank you for taking the time to explain the anomalies.
1944 Bulova Surgeon is a good match noting the dial does not match the 1942 ad.

Wow. I didn’t notice when looking at the adds that though the dial doesn’t match the add, the hands do match.
1944 Bulova Surgeon seems to be a good match
