Nice find Mark, can't wait to see the restored version! That dial looks like fourty miles of bad road :-) Bezel look sweet as she sits.
I agree. We don't see too many of these, a worthy project.
What is quite unique about your new project is the visual perspective of the bezel is decieving. Notice how in the ad the artist made it look almost like a flat rectangle? You really don't get the feel of the convex of the bezel until you see it from the side... Cool :-)
Ooo! That'll be a nice looker when it's done. Can't wait to see the after pics. What a unique look!
I will update in about 45 Days, stay tuned.
There are 2 in the database, both dated 1940 and the ad is also dated 1940. Perhaps the artists rendition was so bad that the Watch didn't sell and was not produced after. lol
In person it's a very purty piece, well at least the Bezel is, everything else is shot.
Balance swings which is a good sign.
Unfortunatelty the old leather strap was completely dry rotted, looks like the orig springbars.
I think that once "restored" (especially the dial) it's gonna be a "STUNNER"!!! I gave it 3 stars
I may try to clean the Dial Bob by dipping it in a mixture of Lemon Juice, Salt and Water - supposidly the mixture cleans Copper (?)
If not I'll buy a bottle of Tequila and get at least some good use from the ingrediants...
In reply to I may try to clean the Dial by FifthAvenueRes…
Seriously LMAO... but have to admit the Tequila has worked for me in the past.... All I can say is ENJOY
That would create a mildy caustic acid solution, but I think those ingredients would serve you better as crutches for the T'killya...If you happen to be near a museum, stop in and ask to see a pro restorator, they may be able to give you some tips on what to use and where to get it. And those types are always helpfull when you are trying to restore originals of about anything.
Crutches? lol
An old School restorer would use a Dial brush and blower on a valuable original shooter, this Dial is a little beyond that.
Rodico can sometimes be effective but can lift print.
