Watch Description

1937 Broadcaster with possible unique dial. B-10k Gold Filled. 5th Avenue New York watch. Was purchased with a large collection from an estate sale in NYC. Unknown history beyond that. Dial appears to be 100% original with no retouching. Possible original band, but I do not know enough to say one way or the other.

Thank you for posting your watch.  Looks to be a 1937 Bulova Broadcaster to me.   I am not concerned about the dial as we have seen dial variations on these early models.

Would this dial have been made for a specific store, or just a random dial variation produced in small numbers by Bulova? Also, do I need to upload a better pic of the band to determine originality?

That bracelet probably is not the original bracelet. You can look in the ad section. There’s a 1938 ad showing the original bracelet.

I can't help but notice my Broadcaster dial is closer to the one shown for the American Clipper in this advert. How did these dial variants work exactly? Would Bulova produce watches with random dial variants, or would they work with a specific retailer who requested an exclusive dial for their store?

I'm most curious about the dial since I cannot find any adverts from the time showing this variant.

There’s no evidence Bulova assembled watches from random parts or made any models for a specific merchant specifically. We don’t have information on every model and variant they made. It’s possible the dial and movement from another model was put into this case or Bulova may have made this variant early on before changing to the dial in the ad. We have no way of knowing for sure. None of that suggests any particular rarity or greater collectibility.
