case SN suggests 1938? engraving "added later as an upsale"? Three stars for American Clipper w/o variant letter & w/o distinction btwn engraved or not engraved from me.
Not sure what you mean by the engraving being "added later as an upscale". There's at least one ad that shows the American Clipper with an engraved case (dated 1938). It was offered in both engraved and unengraved.
I'm trying to remember how this was an "F" variant....

This ad shows the “F” variant and it has an engraved bezel.

The case serial number seems to indicate this is a 1938 model and not a 1936.

William Smith mentioned that in his first comment as well.
I've updated the year as I agree with 1938. It does appear that the orignal band has been replaced, but the engraved case version (white dial) would still make this the "F" variant.
I've not yet found any adverts for engraved case on leather, but so far variants A and E have not been accounted for.
