I rec'd this watch as a gift from my FiL. It was his grandfather's. I had the crystal replaced a long time back, maybe in the late 1990s. The watch ran at that time, but has since stopped. If you wind it, hold the stem tension, and tap it, it will begin running again. I am in the process of having that part repaired, as well as having it cleaned and serviced.
The case serial number is 237449, supposedly indicating 1923. I can find no marking that indicates when the mechanism was made, which may mean it's older. The original box is black, with black velvet liner in the bottom and a white satin lining on the top, with a Mercury-looking logo. I will try to get a photo of that as well, but don't currently have one.
I have added a picture of the display box, if that helps anyone.

Welcome to myBulova and thank you for sharing this wonderful pocket watch that you received from your FIL. A great package with the case and chain! I didn't find an exact match. I think there may have been many more pocket watches than they advertised.
Thank you. The chain is not original to the gift... I purchased that so I could carry the watch, but I don't remember from where... I think it was the same shop that replaced the crystal.
Great watch and heirloom, thanks for sharing. I have come back to this one several times and am unable to find an ID.
Sorry, Unknown for me.
I could not find a match either but wow that box is awesome. We seldom see the original boxes.
1923 Unknown
1923 Unknown. I agree with Jim - The watch is fabulous - the presentation case is over the top!
I have to disagree with 1923. The pocketwatch is very similar to this record which we dated to 1929, which I believe is the case here. Also am I seeing an oversized shield (29) date stamp on the movement?

Despite not knowing the model name, I believe we can ID as a 1929 Bulova Pocket Watch.
I think keeping them together is a great idea.
1929 Bulova Pocket Watch
Wonder why I didn't think of that? (updated)
Consensus is a wonderful thing :-)
