1926 Bernice with Cabochon Sapphire crown and geometric engraved dial. Everything looks correct for a Bernice in the advert illustrations but the leaves around the oval crystal are laurel leaves. I suspect this is an error in the Ad illustration since all the other Bernice examples on here match this one.

Dear Laup, very well spotted that the engraving around the glass is not like the illustration but a laurel leave. So the question is what example did Bulova then send to the illustrator? It was a case that American Standard, the case maker for Bulova, produced for Benrus. When they discontinued the model, Bulova introduced it as the Bernice and changed the engraving around the glass to laurel leaves. The model they sent to the illustrator, however, was still the Benrus version. A mistake? We will never know. In any case, they never bothered to correct the illustration, nor was the version in the illustration ever sold as a Bernice - they all have Laurel leaves as you correctly observed.

Thank you for the added information Alex, this is the sort of thing I love about old watches. I had novelty watches, as a young man, but really got into the topic when I inherited a box of watches that my father had. some his, some his mothers and fathers, one unbranded with a Jules Jurgenson movement that must have been my great grandmothers.
