Watch Description

Dr Lillian E. Shaw of Greenwich, CT was a registered physician in the state of Pennsylvania.

Could this watch be her graduation gift from medical school?

In 1926 she published this article in The Delineator: Home Ecnomics, entitled "Turn your Housework into Exercise"

Whilst researching I also found this in The Swarthmore News PA dated Friday May 4, 1917, which states she was the Head of the Department of Physical Education of Women. I think we can guess what she used the $1600 for.

Watch was completely torn down and given a full clean and oil. Getting the hands to sit just right was a bit of a headache along with the placement of the center sweep hand pinion and spring cover.

Despite working on many standard 10A style movements, these early 'cs' versions of this era can be very temperamental.

After weeks of tweaks and adjustments it's now running like new and keeps pretty good time for a 102-year-old wristwatch.

(I am slightly SW. of Pittsburgh PA) and I believe the Lion is the English Sterling Silver mark.

' The lion hallmark — specifically the lion passant — is one of the most enduring and recognizable symbols in the world of silver, serving as the official mark for 92.5% sterling silver in England since 1544'

This particular hallmark is the Swiss hallmark for Sterling Silver and not English.

That is outstanding, good job! The backstory is amazing. Do we classify this as a 1924 Nurse?

Awesome watch with a great history.   I am good with 1924 Bulova Nurse designation based on the others we have classified as Nurse in the DB.

I don't think this is the 'NURSE'

The case proportions are way off, imo.

I've seen this one somewhere.....1924 Bulova Nurse. It looks great Stephen - well done bringing a NURSE back to life, there should be a medal?.
