Well, mysterious to me... Pictured below is my PhD advisor’s father’s watch. I am told it is a 1967 model 214 Accutron. This is the only memento left to my advisor by his father so as you can imagine it has the utmost in sentimental value. While wearing it, the plastic “crystal” popped off and needs replacing. He’d like to have this professionally done in concert with a full detailed service on the quartz movement. The NAWCC forum suggested that this requires a subject matter expert on this sort of movement as they are easily damaged. They pointed me to this forum to try and find someone who is experienced in the overhall/service of such movements. This being a family heirloom, I’d like to ask your advice on who would be a highly competent, experienced and reliable watchmaker to whom we can send this with confidence.

That is a fantastic watch ! We have a few watchmakers on here, Timemachines, timerestorations and a few others. Up top on this page, go to Home, my messages and type either name in the to box....There are others as well that may chime in over a day or two. Installing a new crystal is simple and any watchmaker can do that for a reasonable fee, the service on the movement should be left to someone experienced with the Acutron tuning fork movement.

The 214's Dial looks very good, I'd suggest some protection until a new Crystal can be installed. A very neat trick I have seen My Watchmaker do is place the Watch under an inverted glass. I now do it all the time....
Simple and effective.
