I’m thinking of buying my first Accutron. Does anyone have any recommendations on what to stay away from or look for? So many I see say untested. Seems like a gamble.

I assume you want a vintage 214 or 218 Accutron. Make sure watch has records of recent service. New battery and running accurately. If you have a watch in mind, I would be happy to look at a Pic and judge quality, model and rarity email centralhsd@earthlink.net

Buying your first hummer is exciting and can be a scary thing, especially if you're spending good money to get the one you want. It can indeed be a bit of a gamble, but checking out the seller's history and feedback can help to mitigate buying a dud. IMO it's always important to buy a runner, unless you have plenty of money to spare and can afford sending it off to someone trustworthy to have restored. Parts are usually easy enough to come by for the most part.
