I toss the case into plain old warm water and dish detergent then have at it with the Wifes toothbrush lol! (jk, I use an old one). The warm water and detergent will help melt the adhesive holding the crystal, it should fall out. Let the case soak,  Gold wont rust so dont be afraid, I've done quite a few now: ) scrub it up then dry it off. Polish with some brasso on a clean cloth, You'll be surprised at how nice it will come up. Nice find!
