I love these more affordable old ladies watches, and the ads for these tend to be in the newspapers vs the expensive magazine publications of the time.  It was expensive to run an ad in Sat Evening Post, and the more expensive models tend to be shown in those ads.  It was also expensive for Joe Citizen to purchase  a subscription of Sat Evening Post (for example) but almost anyone could afford to buy a local newspaper, so IMO the more affordable watches were advertised in these cheaper newspapers- often with target audience being the average Joe or Josephine.
