I think the American Standard W C Co hallmarks pre-date the Aug 1918 American Standard ''in use since' date of the Bulova patent. 

It would make sense that American Standard W C Co was a stand alone case manufacturer before its' purchase by Bulova (in 1918?).

 Cases marked simply 'American Standard', as in the Bulova filing would then post date Aug 1918.
